Crown and Glory at Vogue's FNO for Oasis!

Thought I'd show you a couple of photos from the Vogue Fashion's Night Out event I worked at last week! If I'm honest I can't believe it's only been a week! For those that don't know, the previous Friday I received the most exciting and surreal phone call of my life - from a marketing manager at high street fashion chain Oasis. Requesting the company of me, little old Sophie from Cornwall, to be the guest of honour at their Fashion's Night Out party for Vogue magazine.

At their three central London stores, they hired three designers to sit in their window display for the evening and make headbands to order for their customers. And they wanted to pay me!

I still haven't quite digested it all. Vogue magazine. London. Monumental high street fashion chain. Crown and Glory. All in the same sentence.

When I arrived at the Argyll Street store (nice and early like any self respecting fashionista shouldn't) I was greeted by the wonderful managers Tallulah and Helen who made me feel instantly comfortable. After initial introductions they uttered the words every girl dreams of hearing "Go on then, pick yourself an outfit!" I opted for this dress from their Rococo collection - I needed something I felt comfortable in.

After dressing the window (with the help of VMs Tom and Becky) with a selection of my ready made designs it was time for me to take my place in the Alice in Wonderland-esque oversized set and get to work!

The customers queued for 45 minutes solid the whole evening. My most requested item was bow headbands made from tape measures, topped with a glittery button. Chatting to everyone was so wonderful, and I was a little overwhelmed with how impressed everyone was with the pieces - I didn't have very long to spend on each item but everyone seemed to really like what I made for them! Some people had very clear ideas about what they wanted whilst others let me suggest another button here, a quick slip of ribbon there. While I was only supposed to be working until 9pm, there was still a solid queue when I was asked if I wanted to start turning people away - despite feeling seriously tired and thirsty I just couldn't let that happen! The fact that people had queued for so long literally blows my mind.

If you came down on the night, sent me a good luck tweet or facebook message, I offer a million thankyous for your kindness and support. And the biggest thanks of all, to all the team at Oasis for having me. Truthfully, this time two years ago I was in the deep grips of regular, crippling, anxiety attacks triggered by the simplest of social situations (aka, going to the supermarket) so the fact that I was not only offered this opportunity but also that I felt confident that I could meet the challenge is a bigger deal for me that you could ever know.

If you didn't manage to make it down on the night, never fear - stop by our Facebook page on Monday morning for the chance to win a very special prize.

  1. That is just so awesome, am so proud of you! I remember seeing your gorgeous pieces in their infancy on TSUK (yes I still have, and wear, my little bird!) and to see how far you've come just blows my mind.

    And this bit:

I could have written that first bit. You got there, maybe I'll get there too.
